Why am I not receiving test emails?
Written By Danny Schaffer
A test email is an email sent from your rezora account to your own email address, so you can preview what your contacts will see. There are a handful of common reasons a test email might not show up, along with ways to work around each one.
Give it time
Delivery can occasionally be delayed by the receiving email server, sometimes by several hours and in rare cases up to 24 hours. This is often caused by the server intentionally holding messages from a sender it doesn't yet recognize, which is a normal part of how many spam filters work. If your test email hasn't arrived, it's worth waiting a bit before assuming something went wrong.
Check your Spam folder
If your test email ended up in Spam, there are a number of possible reasons. Take a look at our other articles on avoiding the spam filter for the general picture. For test emails specifically, a few things are worth knowing:
Sending to yourself can look like spoofing. Many email systems, including Microsoft's Outlook and Exchange environments, actively watch for messages where the From address matches the recipient's own address, since that's a known technique spammers use to slip past filters. This isn't unique to corporate inboxes, though corporate systems tend to apply it more aggressively. If your test emails keep landing in spam for this reason, send them to a personal inbox instead of back to the same address you're sending from.
Keep the content realistic. It's tempting to label a test email with "test" in the subject or body, or to fill it with placeholder text like Lorem Ipsum. Modern spam filters weigh sender reputation and overall content quality more than any single word, but a message that's obviously a placeholder, thin on content, and unlike a normal send can still read as lower quality to a filter. For the most reliable test, use content that looks like a real email you'd actually send.
Try more than one provider. If you're still having trouble, it may just be a delay specific to one email server. Send test emails to a few different providers, such as Gmail and Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail), to see if the issue is isolated to one of them.
If none of this helps
If your test emails are consistently missing across providers, it may be worth confirming that your sending domain's authentication (SPF, DKIM, and DMARC) is set up correctly, since a misconfiguration there can affect delivery more broadly, not just for test emails.
